Large Scale Abstractions

I completed and exhibited my Master's Thesis at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona in December, 1997. These were all fairly large scale works, as seen in the photo of me standing by one of them. They were improvised explorations of contrasting formal elements: organic vs. geometric (chaotic vs. orderly); flat shape vs. three dimensional form; hard edges vs. soft gradations. Although the compositions were from invention, I see references to nature in them --- objects floating as if in water or in atmospheric space; shapes like bubbles, rocks, seed pods or tangled roots.
