Around the age of eight, I began teaching myself to draw by copying pictures from Flintstones comic books.

When I was about twelve, my grandfather came to visit and bought me a large format drawing pad.

I sat for hours, perched on a tall stool at the end of our house's front walk, the large pad on my lap,

making a pencil drawing of the house next door, faithfully rendering every windowpane.

I attended a high school magnet art program in Maryland, then went on to earn a BFA

from Washington University in St. Louis and an MFA from Arizona State University.

I started out as an oil painter, but these days I like the immediacy of paper cuts.

Heroes and Inflences:

I'm inspired by David Hockney, especially his recent large scale works exploring

the landscapes of East Yorkshire, England.  I love the exotic landscapes of Henri Rousseau,

and the organic designs of William Morris. I'm also drawn to the works of 19th century

Japanese printmakers, such as Hokusai and Hiroshige.
